The majority of Lithuanian citizens favor the possibility to perform a notarial act in a secure remote way, and the number of transactions approved by notaries via remote means is at a record high.
According to a survey conducted by Vilmorus Public Opinion and Market Research Centre, when asked how they evaluate the possibility to perform notarial acts not only in a notary's office but also remotely via a secure electronic connection, 47% of respondents answered positively/more or less positively. 19% of respondents answered satisfactorily, same percentage - negatively/more or less negatively, 15% could not answer.
Meanwhile, the number of remote notarial acts performed has risen to record highs. At the beginning of 2024, an average of 4-5 thousand remote notarial acts were performed every month, while in June the number exceeded 10 thousand and in July 13 thousand. This is about one tenth of all notarial acts performed per month.
According to the statistics of the Chamber of Notaries, among the most numerous notarial acts performed at a distance are mortgage transactions and their amendments, real estate transactions, certification of powers of attorney, and conducting inheritance proceedings.
