Lithuanians support legalization of different gender partnerships, disapprove similar same-sex arrangements

Nearly half of Lithuanians would support the legalization of different gender partnerships, but only slightly more than one tenth are in favor of same-sex partnerships.  Even less than one tenth of respondents would support the legalization of same-sex marriage.

The representative sociological research was commissioned by the Lithuanian Chamber of Notaries and conducted by the Public opionion and market research center Vilmorus in May, 2021. 

According to the research, 46 per cent of respondents said they favored the proposal that notaries would be allowed to register the different gender partnerships, 30 per cent were against that. Proposal that notary would be allowed to register the different gender marriage was favored by 41 percent of respondents, 33 per cent did not support that.

The research by Vilmorus also said that 67 per cent of respondents disapprove the legal opportunity of same-sex partnerships, with 14 per cent supporting that. Another controversial idea of same-sex marriages was supported by 9 per cent and disapproved by 77 per cent of respondents.

The poll was conducted on May 11-21, 2021 throughout Lithuania. The researchers have interviewed 1004 persons, aged 18 plus.
