Lithuanian notaries will commemorate the 95th Anniversary of notariate in independent Lithuania

After the declaration of independence of Lithuania on February 16, 1918, the reform and organization of notarial and pawning legislature became a primary task of the Lithuanian Government. On January 16, 1919, the Government had appoved the legal act which was called the Temporary Arrangement of Lithuanian Notariate. It reformed the former Russian emperial notarial system. On December 23, 1919, the Additional Law on Arrangement of Lithuanian notariate has been adopted. It described the major notarial deeds.

The 145th anniversary of birth of the prominent lawyer, notary, public figure and author, Juozas Vilkutaitis-Keturakis will be commemorated in 2014 as well by Lithuanian Chamber of Notaries. Juozas Vilkutaitis worked as a notary in the town of Prienai in 1924-1939. In 1895, Vilkutaitis under a pen-name of Keturakis wrote a comedy which became a classical piece of Lithuanian literature and the first publicly staged Lithuanian theater play.
