Lithuanian citizens disapprove same-sex partnerships and marriages - opinion poll

Respondents also had expressed negative opinion towards the theoretical proposals to legalize single-sex marriages - 84 per cent disapprove, 3 per cent approve.

The views of respondents regarding the new possible notarial deeds, including the registration of traditional heterosexual partnerships and marriages, have been surveyed during the poll.

According to Vilmorus, 37 per cent approved the legalization of registration of heterosexual partnerships, 14 per cent found it satisfactory, and 36 per cent disapproved.

Asked whether they supported the proposal that notaries would be empowered with the right to register the marriage, 36 per cent supported such idea and the same number of respondents disapproved it.

In regards to proposals of empowering the notaries with the right to divorce married people, 64 per cent supported them, 11 per cent disappoved.

Notaries in Estonia and Latvia were granted the power to divorce married people in absence of dispute and underage children several years ago. Notaries in Estonia can register the marriage.
