Lithuania representatives discuss notarial reforms at conference in Kiev

The conference was greeted by the Minister of Justice of Ukraine P. Petrenko and the President of Chamber of Notaries of Ukraine Volodimir Marchenko.

Minister M. Vainiute reviewed the relations of Ministry of Justice and Lithuanian Chamber of Notaries. Chairman J. Sabatauskas presented an overview on legal regulations of notariat, the parliamentary approach towards compentences of notaries as well as means of parliamentary control. Former active member of International Union of Notaries, Mr. M. Merlotti, focused on a key problem of Ukrainian notariat - the regulation of quantity of notaries. Professor V. Nekrošius presented an analysis on notarial reform in Lithuania in 1992, when the post-soviet state notary system was turned into Latin type. Mr. M. Stračkaitis introduced a presentation on the use of information technologies by notaries as well as analysis on problems on Ukrainian notariat and search for their solutions in order to fulfil the UINL membership requirements.

The conference was heavily attended by delegates from Ukrainian notarial constituences.
