The international conference was dedicated to The Second Statute of Lithuania Grand Duchy, which was empowered in 1566. The law introduced the Land Courts. The scribes for these courts performed the duties similar to ones of modern notaries.
The conference was attended by the President of International Union of Notaries (UINL) Mr. Daniel-Sedar Senghor, the President of the Council of European Union Mr. Paolo Pasqualis, as well as representatives of notariates from Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Hungary, Estonia, Latvia, Moldova, Armenia, Belarus, Russian Federation, Geogia and Ukraine. Acting Minister of Justice Mr. Juozas Bernatonis and the Chairman of parliamentary Law and Law Enforcement Committee Mr. Julius Sabatauskas welcomed the participants in their addresses.
The speakers delivered presentations on the history of notariate, the issues and challenges of modern notarial profession.
