CNUE General Assembly welcomes new observer members

2024.06.13

The Council of Notaries of the European Union (CNUE) welcomed the accession of three new observer members - the notarial organisations of Albania, Moldova and Sakhartvelo - on 12 June at its General Assembly meeting in Vilnius.

The three countries have a Latin-style notariat and have been officially recognised as candidates for accession to the European Union, therefore the three notary chambers have been invited to join the "waiting room" of the CNUE, where they will be able to intensify and improve their cooperation with the notariats of the EU member states in multilateral and bilateral formats.

Welcoming the participants of the meeting, Lithuanian Minister of Justice Ewelina Dobrowolska said that she believes that joining the CNUE will allow the observer members to learn from the experience of other EU countries, will enable them to align their legal systems with the EU standards and will ensure that the members of the Council will be assisted in strengthening their own notariats.

In 2024, Lithuanian Chamber of Notaries presides over the organisation of notaries of 22 European Union countries, and Klaipėda notary Marius Stračkaitis has been elected its president for a one-year term. Ten other countries, including Albania, Moldova and Georgia (Sakartvelo), have been granted CNUE observer status.

CNUE represents the interests of around 50,000 notaries in European countries and 200,000 of their employees.
