Strengthening the notariat will be a particular focus for Ministry of Justice and Lithuanian Chamber of Notaries. This was discussed on 29 January at the meeting of the Minister of Justice Rimantas Mockus and the President of the Lithuanian Chamber of Notaries Marius Stračkaitis.
"Notariat is one of the essential pillars of the rule of law, which not only helps to ensure the legitimate interests of citizens, the implementation of the rule of law principle, but also has to reflect social aspects", - Rimantas Mockus emphasized.
According to the Minister, there are situations when people do not know which part of the fees they pay for notarial services goes to notaries and which to the Centre of Registers, so the aim will be to clarify the process, and to seek opportunities to further reflect the interests of socially vulnerable groups.
During the meeting, the results of the Lithuanian Notariat's presidency of the Council of Notariats of the EU were presented, the issues of strengthening the self-government of the notariat and future initiatives in this area were discussed.
Currently 225 notaries are active working in 199 offices throughout Lithuania.
