Notarial reforms underway in Belarus bring this country closer to full membership in the International Union of Notaries (UINL), which unites more than 80 Latin-type notary nations.
The matter was under discussion during the meetings of the General Council and International Commission on Co-operation of Notaries (CCNI) of UINL. The events took place in Veracruz, Mexico, on May 15-18, 2019. Lithuania was represented by CCNI member, President of Lithuanian Chamber of Notaries Marius Stračkaitis.
Mr. Stračkaitis introduced the recent developments in Belarus to CCNI, underlining that Belorussian notariat meets the requirements of Latin type. CCNI formally endorsed Belarus' accession to UINL as full member, with final decision pending at UINL General Council meeting in Jacarta, Indenesia, in November 2019. Additional expertise visit to MInsk, attended by CCNI members, including Mr. Stračkaitis, is scheduled for August, 2019.
Countries such as Iran, Kazakhstan, Cambodia and Burundi are under consideration for full UINL's membership as well.
